CYNTHIA LANGFORD

Boozhoo

I was born in northern Ontario and was raised in the small town of Schreiber which is located on the beautiful shores of Lake Superior. My family is Anishanaabe (Ojibway) from the Flying Post First Nations.

As a child growing up I learned to appreciate and respect the wilderness and beauty around me. It is only recently after the outcome from Truth and Reconciliation that i have looked more into my heritage and traditional learnings through our band resources. My new work on my painted turkey feathers are inspired by native beading patterns and designs.

My mother, who was a self taught and very gifted artist was my mentor and teacher. Her first lesson was the care of brushes and how to clean them and till this day I still hear her voice in my head as i clean my brushes!

The trees, landscapes ,clouds and waters have always captured my gaze, so it wasn't surprising that after a trip to Italy in 2011 for an art workhop, i experienced plein air painting for the first time and learned how to take in all the elements to paint on canvas. After my return I watched videos,  attended other workshops and painted and painted .... I enjoy exploring different techniques and styles as well as subjects. You will see my work in both acrylic and oils.

I  have shown my work for many years at the Courtyard Gallery in Enderby and local businesses  as well as participation in other Gallery events. I am a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. I  have just retired from my day job and my studio is where you will find my most days.
